Assessment Days are another activity run by the Tennis Foundation to complement our work with the Tennis Trail. They provide a means for British youngsters to obtain a professional assessment of their tennis skills and an opportunity for them to apply for grant aid from the Foundation.
|
Each year we hold a number of Assessment Days and the most recent, held at the David Lloyd Tennis Centre in Heston, West London, was attended by over 20 aspiring young tennis players.
At Assessment Days, children are put through their paces with a series of tests, and are monitored and assessed by a team of top tennis coaches and fitness specialists.

On hand in London recently were Andrew Jarrett, former Davis Cup Captain, player and coach Jo Louis, and Steve Green, former fitness coach to Greg Rusedski. A top team to really put the children to the test!
After the warm up the children were placed in groups and moved around the courts demonstrating their ability through a variety of shots and strokes. Our fitness specialists also took them through a number of exercises testing flexibility, stamina and athletic ability.

It was a tough challenge for the children who attended. Our team of coaches demand a very high standard and the exercises are designed to fully test each child's ability in all areas of their game.

Their tennis skills and fitness were assessed by the expert team and they were also videoed, enabling us to carry out a thorough examintaion of their ability and potential. There were some impressive peformances on the day and we'll be reviewing the video footage along with the reports from the coaches and fitness experts, over the coming weeks.
We would like to thank everyone who attended the Assessment Day. We hope that we continue to see so many children playing to such a high standard.
