Last year, the Cliff Richard Tennis Foundation joined forces with Sargent Cancer Care for Children to unveil a new initiative, the Tennis Bounceathon.
| Bounceathon is a nationwide competition for children aged between 4 and 12 aimed at introducing them to tennis. |
|
The competition is designed to get kids hitting tennis balls in a fun way, providing an introduction to the LTA's Mini Tennis programme, whilst also raising money for the Cliff Richard Tennis Foundation and Sargent Cancer Care for Children.
We had a terrific response to our first Bounceathon and are delighted to announce that the competition will be held again this year. Schools and clubs that are interested in registering for this year's Bounceathon, should visit the bounceathon website.
The winners of the 2003 competition were as follows:
| 1st School |
South Trelawny Primary School, Plymouth |
| 1st Club |
Silloth Tennis Club, Cumbria |
South Trelawny Primary in Plymouth was one of the schools visted by the Tennis Trail in 1999, so we're delighted to see that tennis has made such an impact on the school. Both won Prizes worth £1500 donated by The Lawn Tennis Association: Painted Mini Tennis Court for their school or club plus, mini tennis equipment, rackets, balls and free standing net.
| 2nd School |
Thorpe Lea Primary School, Surrey |
| 2nd Club |
Victoria Avenue LTC Bournemouth |
Both won Dunlop Slazenger Mini Tennis Equipment, donated by Dunlop Slazenger.
Congratulations and our thanks go to both schools and clubs for their support of Bounceathon 2003. All were invited to attend Bounceathon Prize Giving at Wimbledon in the LTA Kids Zone, where Sir Cliff Richard OBE and other celebrities met the prize winners.
