“She got off to a pretty bad start [against Bencic],” he said.
“She lost 3-1 and then she just turned it around like it was the most natural thing.
“She looked lost at first, she didn’t feel the ball, especially on the forehand side, and then all of a sudden she plays like she’s done it a million times. …
She’s the real deal at 18 and I can’t imagine Emma Raducanu not being in the top five players in a few years.
Besides being impressed with his technical prowess, Wilander was struck by Raducanu’s mental toughness at such a young age as well as his ability to have fun at the same time.
“I find it hard to find a weakness in his game” – Wilander on Raducanu run
He added: “She is only 18 and coming from Great Britain there is a lot of pressure with what happened with her at Wimbledon. She played really well but couldn’t finish this Last match.
“I’m so happy because during Wimbledon I was telling everyone that Emma was the real deal.
“She’s moving well and now she’s proving to everyone that sometimes we know what we’re talking about!
“She doesn’t let anything fool her and she’s having fun. She clearly appreciates what is amazing.”
