Sue Mappin

Sue Mappin has been involved in tennis since the age of 6. Her passion and love for the game, together with her outgoing and determined personality have made her one of the game's leading figures, both in the UK and internationally.

Sue has played at the highest level of the game, competing in all Grand Slam events, representing her country on numerous occasions. On completion of her playing career in 1978 Sue was asked by the Lawn Tennis Association to become the first National Women's Team Manager.

In 1991 Sue was approached by the Cliff Richard Organisation to establish and manage a new tennis charity. The Cliff Richard Tennis Development Trust was born. Her lifetime involvement with the sport made her the natural choice to run the new charity and over the last 10 years the Foundation has poured millions of pounds back into the grass roots of the game.

Through her consultancy, SMC, Sue heads the team of 4 full time coaching and administration staff. She devotes her time to arranging and running the numerous programmes which the charity operates - a hectic and full time job, but one which she enjoys immensely.

'Sir Cliff has been quoted as saying that tennis is a numbers game - the more people who become enthused about it, the greater our chances are of finding tomorrow's champions. And I believe that he is right. After 9 years of running the Foundation we have seen first hand, the talent and enthusiasm amongst our young people. That's why I am so passionate about the work that we do and why we are moving up a gear in the next few years.'
