Sir Cliff Richard OBE

Cliff Richard has been a musical icon for more than four decades. After 47 years and a staggering 250 million record sales, he continues to delight his fans with new music and spectacular live performances. As many will know, Cliff's other passion is tennis.

'Tennis. I can't get enough of it. I was introduced to the sport back in the eighties by my close friend Sue Barker and I have enjoyed it ever since. I love watching the game as much as playing it and feel privileged to be able to do both reasonably often.

As is the case with all sports, success in tennis is a numbers game. The more youngsters are encouraged to play tennis and grow to love it, the better the odds of finding that special girl or boy who might just make it to the top of the rankings.

That's why in 1991, out of a real love of the game and a desire to see more young people playing this sport, I formed the Cliff Richard Tennis Development Trust. Our team of coaches is on the road throughout the year, taking tennis into state primary schools and so far over 200,000 children have had the chance to try their hand at playing tennis.

'My dream is for tennis to win the hearts and minds of as many people in this country as football does. If we can find some more winners, maybe one day it will.'

Sir Cliff Richard OBE

Cliff's passion for tennis came from spending many hours on and off court working on his game and studying others at Wimbledon and any other event he could get to. His game has improved no end and he continues to work hard developing it. He has also been honoured with membership of the most famous tennis club in the world, The All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, awarded to him for his work in tennis through this charity.
